Do you have any templates saying 'scan me' or 'scan here' in English and Welsh?
Funny you should ask! Yes - try this zip file. It contains bilingual artwork with both 'scan me' and 'scan here' variants, as PNG and SVG, to use with your QR codes. Feel free to use as you see fit.
Is there a link I can use instead of the QR code, for people to type in, or to have as a hyperlink in my document?
Yes - under your QR code, select 'Options' and the URL is given at the bottom. It will be in the form 'qrcymraeg.com/5 character code'. Note that the five characters at the end of the URL can be typed in in upper or lower case.
Why do my QR codes appear blurry if I enlarge them?
There are two main types of graphic file commonly in use - 'bitmap' and 'vector'. A bitmap file contains the individual pixels to make up an image, and will get blurry if enlarged beyond its original size; whereas a vector file contains the instructions used to make an image (e.g. 'draw a line at the top, a circle below' etc.) and will scale without blurring to any size. PNG files are bitmap, and SVG are vector. PNG files tend to be more widely supported by graphics and design software.
The default file format for downloads in QR Cymraeg is a medium-sized PNG (bitmap). To avoid the code becoming blurry when you enlarge it, click on 'Options' below the QR code, and either select the 'Large' image size or change the file type to SVG, then click 'download'.
Why should I use QR Cymraeg instead of any other QR code generator?
Because QR Cymraeg...
- Makes it easier and quicker to design your digital and printed assets, including leaflets, posters, reports and digital display - you only need to generate and customise one QR code rather than two each time; and because you only need one code in your materials, the design process will be easier and your layouts more attractive too
- Helps public sector bodies meet the Well-being of Future Generations Act and the Welsh language standards, by proactively promoting and incorporating the Welsh language. If your current QR codes send your audience to an English page by default and they then need to work out how to switch to Welsh if that's their preferred language, you are not treating the two languages equally
